# Derby favourites for Diangana – but is it a good move for him?

Derby County have moved ahead of their Championship rivals into pole position in the race to sign Grady Diangana on a season-long loan, but is a drop down into the league below a good move for the highly-rated youngster?

According to [the Mirror’s James Nursey](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-fernandes-tierney-17678250), the Rams are set to beat off other suitors including Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion and add Diangana to their ranks for the 2019-20 season.

The 21-year-old broke into the first team set-up last season after scoring twice on his debut in that 8-0 rout of Macclesfield in the League Cup and went on to make 17 Premier League appearances under Manuel Pellegrini.

### Read West Ham’s verdict

In all fairness, Diangana could probably act as solid wing back-up for the Hammers this season, but regular game-time for one of the Championship’s top sides will only improve and develop him further.

Especially after his Man of the Match performance against Huddersfield Town on Monday, Tom Lawrence isn’t going anywhere on the left flank while Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott offer good outlets down the middle.

However, Florian Jozefzoon failed to convince before being withdrawn and that right-wing slot seems to be there for the taking, and if Diangana can go in and make an impact, he could become one of the faces of the club’s return to the top-flight.

Of course, there’s the small case of all-time leading England and Manchester United top goalscorer Wayne Rooney joining the club in January, and he’ll go out of his way to improve those around him.

This sounds like a good move for West Ham’s promising starlet, so let’s see where he ends up.
