Everton are set to confirm the season-long loan signing of AS Monaco right-back Djibril Sidibe after he reportedly passed a medical on Monday, but why didn’t West Ham United pursue their interest?
According to L’Equipe, cited by Forever West Ham, the Hammers were ‘too late’ to table an offer for the French World Cup winner and have missed out on his services to a team rivalling for a European place this season.
With the clock ticking before Thursday’s 5pm summer transfer deadline, it’s looking increasingly likely that West Ham’s – admittedly positive – business is done for now.

Don’t get me wrong, both Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masuaku are solid full-back options which I’m sure Manuel Pellegrini will utilise this season. It’s the back-up I’m anxious about.
Both of those mentioned above won’t be able to play every single game of the season, and while 34-year-old Pablo Zabaleta is okay as a temporary fix, Aaron Cresswell isn’t convincing at all.

A few of the goals conceded during pre-season, which Pellegrini has publicly noticed, have come from Cresswell’s side and the general consensus appears to be he isn’t good enough.
Defensive depth is an issue, but the Hammers may have left it too late this summer. Sidibe would’ve been a coup, especially on a loan with the obligation to buy for just over £12million next year, but he’ll be playing his football at Goodison Park.
