# Trott returns to West Ham after groin injury

West Ham United loanee Nathan Trott has been hit with a cruel injury blow which kept him out of AFC Wimbledon’s League One opener against Rotherham at the weekend.

The 20-year-old spent a beneficial full pre-season with Wimbledon to kick off a season-long loan but will have to wait a little longer due to what manager Wally Downes described as an issue with his groin.

Downes, cited by [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/), confirmed after full-time in the Dons’ 2-1 opening day defeat that Trott has returned to West Ham for treatment:

> He’s got a little bit of a groin problem. West Ham are looking at him and have taken it out of our hands really so that’s ongoing, we’ll see where we are next week.

Trott, born in Bermuda, was initially recommended to the Hammers by former player Clyde Best and was signed in January 2016 following a successful trial period.

Despite playing in midfield at school, Trott is now a promising talent in between the sticks and is recognised for his impressive distribution and shot-stopping traits.

He was part of the England squad that won the UEFA European U19 Championship in June 2017, the same year he switched international allegiances.

The Hammers are currently sitting pretty with Lukasz Fabianski in goal, but Trott will be hoping to stake a claim for the no. 1 shirt in years to come.
