# Eyibil targeted by West Ham

West Ham United are reportedly in the race to sign Erkan Eyibil from Mainz this summer.

According to claims from [Turkish Football](https://turkish-football.com/west-ham-newcastle-keep-tabs-on-mainz-wonderkid-erkan-eyibil-dubbed-arsenal-the-new-mesut-ozil/), the Hammers are among the clubs who have been impressed by the 17-year-old this term, with a possible move at the end of the season lined up.

Eyibil has been playing his football in Mainz’s Under-19 team and has turned in some standout displays for the German side. He has found the back of the net on 12 occasions and has chipped in with a further five assists.

The youngster operates primarily as a central attacking midfielder and has seen his style compared to that of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.

Eyibil received a call-up to the Germany Under-18 team last week but remains eligible to represent Turkey at senior international level.

West Ham are not the only top-flight side in the race to sign the youngster, however. Turkish Football reports that Newcastle United are also keen on the Mainz prospect.
