# West Ham and Palmeiras to battle for Gabigol

West Ham are set to face competition from Palmeiras in their pursuit of Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to a report from [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/inter-gabigol-saluta-il-santos-se-e-un-addio-grazie-ora-95116).

The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian forward in recent times, as his future at San Siro continues to come under intense scrutiny.

Barbosa, fondly known as ‘Gabigol’ in his homeland, has been deemed surplus to requirements by Inter and was sent out on loan to Santos at the start of the year.

The 22-year-old appears to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch in the Brasileirao, also. From 35 league appearances, the striker has found the net on 18 occasions and also chipped in with two assists.

It’s understood that Santos would be keen to land Gabigol on a permanent basis following his successful temporary stay at the club.

However, if Calciomercato’s report is to be believed, they will not face an easy run at signing the youngster, with West Ham and Palmeiras both looking at respective January moves.
