# Sanchez to undergo knee surgery

West Ham midfielder Carlos Sanchez has discovered that he will need to undergo knee surgery, according to a report from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6240471/West-Ham-midfielder-Sanchez-faces-knee-surgery-lengthy-spell-sidelines.html).

The Colombian international only joined the Hammers towards the end of the summer transfer window but is now facing a spell on the sidelines following ligament damage.

Sanchez, who joined West Ham for £5 million, made two starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League prior to his injury but will be forced to wait some time before he takes to the field once again.

The 32-year-old sustained knee ligament damage during West Ham’s comprehensive 8-0 win in the Carabao Cup last month and has since received confirmation that surgery will be required.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has delivered an update on the condition of Sanchez, who will begin his rehabilitation from the injury in the near future.

> Carlos had a problem with his knee ligament, maybe he will need a couple of weeks to be able to have surgery but he needs that.

West Ham have a pool of midfield options to call upon but will undoubtedly be disappointed to have lost Sanchez this early on in the season.
