Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka says he will know the full extent of West Ham loanee Sam Byram’s injury within the next 24 hours.
The former Middlesbrough manager hopes he won’t lose the right-back for the season, with Byram having only joined the club recently on loan on transfer deadline day.
Byram sustained the injury against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup last week in just his third appearance for the club, having spent much of last season fraught with injury.

Now the former Leeds United academy product could be forced into another spell on the sidelines, but Karanka hopes this won’t be the case.
Talking to Nottingham Live, Karanka said on Byram’s condition:
He is seeing a doctor today (Thursday), to find out what is happening, for certain.
We will know something very soon. We need to find out whether he needs surgery or another kind of treatment.
I do not think – and hope – that it is not a long injury.
I am not a doctor, but my feeling is that while he is not going to be back in a week or 10 days, we do not think it is not going to be six, seven or eight months either.
I hope that is the case at least.
