West Ham and a host of other Premier League clubs look set to miss out on the signing of Roma outcast Gregoire Defrel.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to England in recent weeks but according to reports in Italy, as cited by the Croydon Guardian, Defrel has opted to remain in Serie A by joining Sampdoria.
Former Sassuolo forward Defrel endured a difficult season with Roma, finding the net on one occasion. He saw his campaign plagued by injuries and was unable to break into the first-team on a regular basis under Eusebio Di Francesco.

The 27-year-old had allegedly emerged as a target for the Eagles, with the club out to add extra attacking firepower to the ranks ahead of next season.
West Ham remain keen to sign another striker this summer as they look to bolster their options, but it seems they will be unable to convince Defrel to snub Sampdoria in favour of a switch to Selhurst Park.
