# West Ham given encouragement in Smolov pursuit

West Ham have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Russian international striker Fedor Smolov.

The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for the Krasnodar striker for some time now. It was claimed in the January transfer window that David Moyes moved for the forward but was unable to secure a deal.

This led West Ham to pursue other targets and in the closing stages of the window, they recruited Jordan Hugill from Preston North End in a deal rumoured to be worth £10m.

However, it’s since been reported that a £15m summer move for Smolov could be on the cards if West Ham stay up, with the striker himself also enthused by the prospect of playing for the Hammers.

Sergei Galitsky, the current president of Russian side Krasnodar, has recently been discussing Smolov’s situation and has admitted that if an appropriate offer is made, he will consider selling the club’s star man.

Speaking to the [Russian media](https://www.sport-express.ru/football/rfpl/news/galickiy-gotov-otpustit-smolova-v-drugoy-klub-1391634/), Galitsky said:

> He’s done a lot of good things for our club. So if there’s a decent offer which will suit both parties, then we’ll think about his departure. If an interested club offers reasonable money to us, then we’ll certainly consider it because we will show respect to Smolov and his wishes.
