# West Ham interested in Eliaquim Mangala

West Ham want to sign Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City, according to the Times’ Paul Hirst.

The Frenchman is out of favour at the Etihad Stadium and it seems Pep Guardiola is keen to offload him in the closing stages of the January transfer window.

Hirst claims that City are more than happy to allow Mangala to depart the club on a loan deal, but this would not be a possible option to explore for West Ham, with Joe Hart already on loan at the London Stadium from the Citizens. This means that only a permanent deal would be plausible.

Mangala has fallen even further down the pecking order under Guardiola in recent times, with City’s club-record transfer for Aymeric Laporte confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

West Ham will face competition from other potential suitors if they are to secure the signature of former Porto defender Mangala, though.

Hirst claims that Newcastle want to sign him from City in the coming days, whilst Valencia are also keen to re-sign him following his positive loan spell at the club last season.
