# Joao Mario gives ‘green light’ for West Ham move

West Ham’s pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario has been well documented over the course of the last week.

The Hammers want to bolster their midfield options this month and with the news that Manuel Lanzini is poised to miss up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, the need to land a midfielder is great.

Therefore, the news from [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/ongoing-talks-between-inter-and-west-ham-as-joao-mario-gives-gre-57039) that Inter star Mario has given the ‘green light’ to a move to the London Stadium is sure to come as a boost for David Moyes.

It’s claimed that after much deliberation, the Portugal international has informed his agent that he’d be open to joining West Ham in the January transfer window, as the clubs continue to discuss a transfer fee for the player.

Inter are reportedly keen to recoup the €36 million fee they paid Sporting CP for Mario, but could settle on a lower price if West Ham opt to pursue an initial loan move with an option to buy.

Calciomercato claim that the Hammers could be allowed to sign Mario for €28 million in the summer if they make their potential loan move permanent. It’s also stated that should West Ham take Mario on loan until 2019, a deal worth €22 million could be struck.

This is down to Mario’s apparently hefty wage demands, which don’t appear to be an issue for West Ham.
