# Adrian admits he wanted to leave in the summer

West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has recently told Spanish paper Marca that Newcastle United made an offer for him during the summer, however, former boss Slaven Bilic “didn’t open the door” for him to leave the London Stadium.

Adrian, 30, who has recently been given the nod as the Hammers’ number one ahead of Joe Hart, was wanted by fellow Spaniard Rafa Benitez at Newcastle. However, former manager Bilic shut the door on a potential deal and the Spaniard remained in London.

Talking to Marca, Adrian stated his frustration over the summer:

> The worst moment was when I wanted to leave on loan in the summer, Real Betis, Deportivo la Coruna, Newcastle and Crystal Palace probed – and they \[West Ham\] didn’t open the door for me.

Adrian has now started three Premier League games on the spin for the Hammers, ever since impressing new manager David Moyes in the side’s narrow 2-1 defeat away at runaway leaders Manchester City, however, things could have been very different for the 30-year-old, if Bilic didn’t stop him making a move away.
