The evolution of Premier League sponsorship

The evolution of Premier League sponsorship

Shirt sponsorship is a pretty old practice in football, and the Premier League is no exception. You could even say that it is a trademark of modern football, which has seen many iterations throughout football history. Even though there’s no rule as to what kind of company you can feature on your shirt (in a broad sense, anyway), there have been all sorts of trends regarding what kind of business would appear on players’ chests. There used to be a time when more teams featured local or national beer companies as their sponsors, but that’s not really the case anymore as clubs have moved away from that particular “sponsor trend”.

The current iteration

In its current iteration, club sponsorship is seeing a huge lean towards betting sites and sports betting in general. It’s nearly impossible to catch a league match nowadays without noticing that one tea or the other, or both, feature a website that deals in sports betting. What’s even more intriguing is the fact that most of these companies are foreign. There seems to be a general hunger for foreign funds as clubs are trying to tap into those funds as hard as they can, and promoting all these foreign betting businesses seems to be the way to do it.

Where does West Ham fit into the story?

Like previously mentioned, most of the league is seeing a huge lean towards betting sites as their main shirt image. West Ham’s own isn’t an exception, as the club features sponsorship from betting business BetWay. The club’s endorsement of the betting site only furthers the current Premier League phenomenon where a striking number of teams are representing big betting names. Betway’s logo and influence, however, does not just linger on the chest of players on the field, but in multiple places, one of them even being the club’s official website page As you log in, there’s a big BetWay logo right on the front page which will take you to their website.

The effectiveness of sports betting sponsorships

Many would argue that this is not an effective way for betting sites to gain followers or increase their profits but the companies in question beg to differ. According to various sources, these betting companies actually earn quite a consistent amount from the endorsement deals they strike with football clubs. This is because, as mentioned previously, it’s not just the shirts that feature the brand name. We’re also talking about the pitchside LED commercials and promos as well as the shirts worn by the millions of fans. Fans of a club like West Ham, for instance, can be found all over the globe, meaning that there are many locations worldwide where the betting site’s influence grows with each fan that dons the club’s shirt.

Betting has been a worldwide phenomenon for a very long time, as gambling and sites like bonuscodesforonlinecasinos.com have been around since people created societies and the internet respectively. It would seem that football clubs are the perfect gateway for betting sites to reach people that have not yet tried it out.
