# Bilic defends comments on club’s failure to land Carvalho

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has been quick to defend his comments made about the club’s failed deal to land William Carvalho, [Football London](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/fixtures-results/bilic-says-wasnt-being-critical-13621931) reports.

The Croatian boss reaffirmed his long standing interest in the Portugal international last week, and appeared to take a dig at West Ham’s co-owner David Sullivan.

> He likes to talk, it is his right. I said I wanted the player, that is not exactly what happened with those two players.

Bilic was evidently unhappy with how Sullivan conducted himself when discussing West Ham’s transfer business, following his claims that the Hammers boss rejected the chance to land Grzegorz Krychowiak from PSG and Renato Sanches from Bayern Munich.

However, speaking on Thursday ahead of his side’s clash away at West Brom on Saturday, Bilic was quick to deny that he was being bullish about Sullivan and his recent actions.

> I was not bullish at all, why not ask me how I was bullish? I don’t know. I was not at all, I only explained the situation that he \[Sullivan\] put me in to.

> I praised him, the club, the deals we done and I meant it. I explained Carvalho and why it didn’t happen. OK, it was the money was too big and I wanted to explain the situation with the two players that I didn’t want. I was not bullish at all.

The Hammers picked up their first win of the season against Huddersfield on Monday evening and will be looking to kick on away at the Baggies.

It’s understood that Carvalho remains a target for West Ham, but the relationship between West Ham and Sporting CP still appears to be delicate.
