# West Ham ready to bid €10m for Silvan Widmer

Despite recruiting Pablo Zabaleta from Manchester City on a free transfer earlier this month, West Ham are still reportedly in the market for a right-back.

According to Italian source Il Messaggero (h/t [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-ready-make-e10m-offer-24-year-old-defender-take-look/)), the Hammers are said to be ready to make a €10m bid to sign Udinese fullback Silvan Widmer this summer.

Since arriving in Serie A four years ago from Granada, Widmer has been a regular in the Udinese side, making 28 appearances last season, providing four assists.

Able to play at right-back or in a wing-back role, Widmer is an ideal fit on paper for a West Ham side that have been rotating between a back four and back three formation.

The 24-year-old is capped nine times by Switzerland but a move for him doesn’t really make much sense.

Slaven Bilic brought in Zabaleta on a two-year deal to provide competition but more importantly mentorship to Sam Byram who is still developing his game, so throwing Widmer into the mix does raise eyebrows, perhaps regarding the future of the former Leeds standout.

West Ham still need to add to their defensive ranks but another right-back isn’t the right move in our minds.
