# West Ham preparing club-record bid for Anthony Modeste

West Ham were meant to have secured the man to lead their attack last summer but they allowed Michy Batshuayi to slip through their fingers and join Chelsea, while Simone Zaza was nothing short of a disgrace.

So the Hammers find themselves back at square one in their search for a striker and are ready to revive their efforts to sign Koln star Anthony Modeste, according to German source [Express](https://www.express.de/sport/fussball/1--fc-koeln/modeste-wirrwarr-auch-premier-league-klub-in-tony-poker-eingestiegen-27028752).

Modeste netted 25 goals in the Bundesliga last season, finishing third in the top scorer charts behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski, firing Koln into next season’s Europa League.

Koln received a €55m offer from Chinese side Tianjin in the winter but turned the offer down, and Express claim they will be looking for offers in excess of €30m for the former France U21 international.

West Ham are keen to sign him and are weighing up a bid to sign Modeste in what would likely make him the club’s record signing.

The report claims that Marseille are also interested in the 29-year-old striker, while Southampton have also been linked.
