# West Ham will be releasing Alvaro Arbeloa

West Ham are already planning to get rid of the failures that were brought into the club last summer.

According to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4497662/Arbeloa-heading-West-Ham-exit-FOUR-appearances.html), West Ham will be releasing Alvaro Arbeloa in the summer when the contract expires.

The 34-year-old defender joined the Hammers on a free transfer on the final day of the summer transfer window to add some experience and cover at both fullback positions.

When Sam Byram went down injured against Middlesbrough, Arbeloa replaced him on the day and was expected to fill in at right-back for the long-term until Byram returned from injury.

Arbeloa clearly didn’t do enough in his time on the pitch or in training to earn a spot in the matchday squad as West Ham decided to try Michail Antonio, Cheikhou Kouyate and Havard Nordtveit at the position before Byram returned after the turn of the year.

The former Real Madrid defender will be leaving the club in the summer as they look to bring in a new right-back and it’s believed that Swansea are interested in signing him.
