# West Ham want Jaap Stam to replace Slaven Bilic

Slaven Bilic’ situation at West Ham is a dicey one.

Less than one year removed from spearheading the Hammers’ best top flight finish for two decades, Bilic has been teetering close to the edge at the London Stadium following a turbulent season.

The Hammers find themselves marooned in mid-table after a dismal run of fixtures over the last six weeks or so, prompting the decision makers to weigh up whether to hand the Croatian an extension to his current contract or cutting ties with him altogether.

With his deal set to expire in 2018, a decision really has to be made this summer as you can’t really allow the former Besiktas manager to go into the final year of his contract without knowing whether he has a long-term project in place at the club.

Jaap Stam has been earning rave reviews in the Championship this season having turned Reading’s fortunes around this season following a three year spell as assistant manager at Ajax.

The legendary manager [remains high on the Hammers’ shortlist](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-eyeing-reading-boss-10098033) of potential replacements for Bilic while Roberto Mancini also remains heavily linked with the role.
