# West Ham offered hope in Michy Batshuayi chase?

It’s well-documented just how close West Ham came to completing the signing of Michy Batshuayi from Marseille last summer, only for Chelsea to swoop in with an eleventh hour bid and steal him from under their noses.

Batshuayi was expected to offer competition for Diego Costa being Antonio Conte’s big money signing, but things haven’t panned out well for the Belgian.

So far, he’s yet to make a Premier League start and has scored just one league goal in 16 appearances.

Even worse for Batshuayi is the fact that, when Diego Costa was out of action for the Blues, Conte didn’t have the faith to start him and persisted with naming him on the bench which, as you would expect hasn’t sat well with the player.

It’s claimed that West Ham approached Chelsea to take the 23-year-old on loan for the rest of the season during the January transfer window but Chelsea were not ready to sanction the move, but now the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelsea-ready-ditch-michy-batshuayi-9936928) claim that Conte is ready to offload the £33m flop in the summer.

Slaven Bilic is clearly a big fan of his play and would like to see him at the London Stadium so could the Hammers be tempted into a cut-price summer move for Batshuayi?

They need striker cover with Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho struggling with injuries and Enner Valencia not expected to be at the club when the next season comes around.
