# Manchester United rival West Ham for Kevin Malcuit

Right-back is a problem position for West Ham and has been for some time but they face some stiff competition for one of their top summer targets.

[TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/transfer-alert-manchester-united-hijack-west-hams-pursuit-saint-etienne-star-170227229462) are reporting that Manchester United are ready to make a summer move for impressive Saint Etienne defender Kevin Malcuit who has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham.

Sam Byram has struggled for fitness and form since arriving from Leeds a little over a year ago and Alvaro Arbeloa has been anything but a success having joined a free transfer on deadline day last summer.

It’s claimed that the Hammers had two bids rejected for Malcuit during the January transfer window after identifying right-back as an area they must improve on, worth a reported €8m and €10m respectively, but the Ligue 1 club rejected both offers.

West Ham want to bring in an experienced right-back in the summer to compete with Byram and Malcuit remains someone they’re keeping tabs on between now and the end of the season.
