# Hammers eye move for Atletico Madrid midfielder

West Ham and Middlesbrough are both thought to be interested in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey.

As reported by Spanish outlet, [AS](https://en.as.com/en/2017/02/11/football/1486830192_019918.html), the Hammers were impressed with the midfielder during the recent African Cup of Nations and are interested in negotiating a summer deal.

Partey’s long-term future appears to be away from Atletico Madrid and Aitor Karanka is also thought to be a huge admirer of the midfielder, who is under contract until 2020 in Madrid.

The Ghanian international has failed to hold down a regular place with the La Liga side this season.

The player’s current deal with Diego Simeone’s side reportedly has a €24 million release clause.

Throughout the season, for club and country, Partey has proved his versatility by playing in a more defensive holding role as well as a more advanced role.

It’s likely that had Madrid not have been involved in a transfer ban, the player could’ve already left, but Simeone has been reluctant to allow any players to leave while they’re unable to replace them.
