# West Ham made an attempt to re-sign Demba Ba

West Ham have tried to find a new striker this month and their search led them to one of their former stars.

[According to David Sullivan](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-explored-demba-ba-return-during-january-transfer-window-reveals-david-sullivan-a3453971.html), the club did look into re-signing Demba Ba this month.

Ba was signed by Sullivan in January 2011 in a £700,000 deal and the Senegalese striker was an instant hit at Upton Park, but his seven goals in 10 Premier League starts was not enough to keep the Hammers in the league.

Following their relegation to the Championship, Ba activated a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave the Hammers on a free transfer and he went on to join Newcastle.

The 31-year-old scored 29 goals in 58 games for Newcastle prior to a £7m move to Chelsea where he found game-time hard to come by. He later went on to move to Besiktas and he’s currently playing in China for Shanghai Shenhua.

He scored 29 goals in 37 games for the Chinese Super League side prior to suffering a major leg break six months ago. Whilst his recovery is going well, Ba is still some time away from a return to the field, Sullivan states.

“We looked to bring Demba Ba back in this window but were told he was 3 weeks from playing after recovering from his injury.”
