# Roma ahead of West Ham in Gregoire Defrel chase

West Ham’s search for a new striker is showing no signs of coming to a swift conclusion and they could have to cross another name of the list of potential additions.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/transfer-news-leicester-city-and-west-ham-face-losing-out-roma-battle-french-forward)), Roma have entered the race to sign Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel this month, who is a reported target of both West Ham and Leicester City.

Defrel has been one of the surprises of the season so far in Italy, contributing towards 10 goals in 20 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo this term (6 goals 4 assists) while netting 10 himself in all competitions.

The 25-year-old only joined Sassuolo 18 months ago in a £6m deal from Cesena but they could be set to more than double their money as Gazzetta state that Roma are willing to pay £12.7m to sign the French forward this month – and throw in centre-back Riccardo Marchizza and left-back Luca Pellegrini as part of the deal.

West Ham are keen on signing Defrel but are yet to make an official offer while their pursuit of Brentford striker Scott Hogan has gone cold after seeing three bids rejected for the 24-year-old who has scored 14 goals in the Championship this season.
