# West Ham delay Jonathan Calleri’s loan to Las Palmas

After scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough last time out, perhaps Jonathan Calleri does have a future at West Ham after all.

It was widely reported that the Argentine striker was to have his loan deal with West Ham terminated after a dismal spell with the club and then join LA Liga outfit Las Palmas on an 18-month loan deal from Uruguayan outfit Deportivo Maldonado.

However, speaking to Marca (h/t [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre)), Las Palmas’ club president Miguel Angel Ramirez has confirmed that West Ham have asked to delay Calleri’s departure from the club which in turn delays his arrival in Spain.

“\[Jonathan\] Calleri and Hernan Toledo are two players that interest \[us\]. We were expecting an answer from West Ham in order to make the Calleri thing (deal) official, but they have asked us for a few days,” Ramirez is quoted as saying.

West Ham want to sign another striker this month having already allowed Simone Zaza to leave, but perhaps Jonathan Calleri could be handed an improved role in the first-team after netting his first goal at the 10th attempt.

Unfortunately, West Ham do not play again before the transfer window closes meaning Slaven Bilic and his staff will need to make a decision on Calleri based on what they’ve already seen from him and what he does in training over the next few days.
