# West Ham join the race for Memphis Depay

With Dimitri Payet throwing himself towards the exit door against the club’s wishes, West Ham need to act and act fast on securing a replacement for the enigmatic Frenchman.

One player reportedly on the Hammers’ radar is Manchester United’s Memphis Depay who, according to [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/) journalist Khaled Karouri, is “being courted by West Ham.”

Depay hasn’t had a great 18 months at Old Trafford since his £23m move from PSV in the summer of 2015. Form has come and gone and under Jose Mourinho he’s barely featured at all, making just eight appearances in all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old will be allowed to leave Manchester United this month but only if their £18m valuation is met says Jose Mourinho. Lyon have seen a £13m bid knocked back this week while Everton have also been linked with a move.

West Ham spent £20m to bring in another winger in Andre Ayew to the club in the summer and it’ll be unlikely for the Hammers to spend a similar sum on a similar player just five months later.
