# West Ham consider loan move for Wesley Hoedt

Retooling the squad for the second half of the season is West Ham’s main objective this month and reinforcements are needed pretty much across the board.

Defensively, another body or two would be ideal, especially if/when Alvaro Arbeloa leaves the club following a dismal six months in East London and who knows, maybe Sam Allardyce will make his interest in James Collins more concrete.

In any case, West Ham are believed to have enquired about taking Lazio centre-back Wesley Hoedt on loan until the end of the season according to Il Tempo (h/t [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-enquire-dutch-defenders-availability-player-wants-six-month-loan/)).

The 22-year-old defender was targeted by both Southampton and Middlesbrough in the summer but ended up staying in Rome.

Having joined Lazio in the summer of 2015 on a free transfer from AZ Alkmaar, the former Netherlands U21 international made 35 appearances in his maiden season with the club but so far this term he’s made just six starts and hasn’t featured in a game since October.

Hoedt has requested to leave Lazio on loan in January to ensure his development isn’t stifled by sitting on the bench every week. Hamburg have also joined the Hammers in making an enquiry for his services.

West Ham do love a January loan (see: Pablo Armero, Antonio Nocerino, Marco Borriello) and perhaps Hoedt could be the latest addition to a not-so-illustrious list.
