Many had written West Ham off ahead of their trip to play Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Forgetting last season’s 3-0 win on Merseyside, Anfield had been a notoriously difficult place for the Hammers to pick up points from over the last 50 years.

With a make-shift line-up and a vastly inexperienced bench, it was a spirited display from Slaven Bilic’s men which enabled them to hold on for a 2-2 draw proving that the players are still as committed as ever.

It looked bleak early on when Liverpool carved open the Hammers allowing Adam Lallana to open the scoring after five minutes.

West Ham battled back valiantly but struggled to create much in terms of clear-cut chances. It would require another special free kick from Dimitri Payet to bring the Hammers level.

A mistake from Joel Matip allowed Michail Antonio to run through and prod the ball beyond Loris Karius to give West Ham a shock 2-1 half-time lead.

Again, Liverpool struck early after the restart as Divock Origi squared things up again but a dogged defensive display from West Ham was enough to bring a point back to East London and lift the Hammers out of the relegation zone.

Here are our player ratings from the game.
