# West Ham eyeing shock move for Troy Deeney

West Ham are preparing a surprise January move for Watford captain Troy Deeney according to the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-ham-weighing-up-shock-9258619?).

The Hammers currently sit 17th in the Premier League are a dismal start to the season and are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements when the January transfer window opens up

Slaven Bilic was handed a £30m+ transfer kitty in the summer, earmarked for one major striker signings and for one reason or another, the Hammers failed to recruit one and ended up making a couple of questionable loan moves for Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza – neither of whom have scored a goal yet.

To rectify this, it’s believed West Ham will pull out all the stops to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has been the subject to interest from Premier League champions Leicester who saw a £25m bid rejected in the summer, giving West Ham a starting point in negotiations.

An enquiry has been made but Watford will definitely not be willing to let Deeney go on the cheap mid-season.
