# Tottenham and West Ham set to battle to sign striker

West Ham will battle Tottenham Hotspur in an attempt to sign Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic in January, according to [reports](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/exclusive-mandzukic-has-psg-and-spurs-waiting-if-he-leaves-juven-10252?) in Italy.

The arrival of Gonzalo Higuain in Turin has seen the 30-year-old’s playing time limited and he’s being linked with a move away as he’s reportedly looking for more first-team football.

If that is the case, it’s reasonable to think that West Ham would be a preferred option for the Croatian as he’s more likely to play ahead of the often-injured Andy Carrol, the underwhelming Simone Zaza and Diafra Sakho, who almost left in the summer.

Spurs meanwhile, have Harry Kane fit again now and he’ll be first choice whilst manager Mauricio Pochettino is also a big fan of summer signing Vincent Janssen.

With the crossing ability of the likes of Dimitri Payet and Aaron Creswell, as well as others, Mandzukic could fancy his chances of scoring plenty of goals with his ability in the air.

Even at 30 years of age, the cost to acquire Mandzukic will still be high, time will tell if West Ham are prepared to splash the cash in order to get him.
