# Napoli working on January transfer for Simone Zaza

Simone Zaza could be off back to Italy much sooner than any of us anticipated.

According to [TuttoMercatoWeb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/esclusiva-tmw-napoli-c-e-l-idea-zaza-per-gennaio-891947), Napoli have made initial contact with Zaza’s representatives and have sounded them out over a return to Serie A when the January transfer window opens.

West Ham paid Juventus £5m to take the Italian international on loan for the entire season in a deal which included an obligatory purchase clause of €20m he makes 10 appearances.

Zaza has already appeared on six occasions without scoring and has struggled to adjust to English football thus far, but a promising display against Crystal Palace may be an indicator that the tide is turning.

Italian media believe that West Ham are eager to get rid of the striker as soon as possible after a rocky start to life in East London, but it’s unknown how much weight those comments actually carry.

As for Napoli, there were said to be interested in the former Sassuolo man in the summer as well but opted to sign Ajax star Arkadiusz Milik instead. Now the Poland international striker is injured, [they’re interested in revisiting a deal for Zaza](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-striker-return-home-country-soon-january-replace-injured-poland-international/).

Will Simone Zaza be a Hammer for the long-term? Only time will tell.
