# Diafra Sakho set for West Ham return in 2-3 weeks

West Ham striker Diafra Sakho is set for a return to the first team in the next 2-3 weeks, according to David Gold.

The Senegalese international striker has been out of action since the end of last season and was tipped to leave the club in the summer after he handed in a transfer request following West Ham’s public search for a new striker.

His reluctance to travel on West Ham’s pre-season tour of Austria was followed by a £16m offer from West Brom, a transfer that fell through because Sakho failed a medical due to an underlying back injury which has kept him out of commission ever since.

Sakho has found the net on 19 occasions in 50 appearances for the Hammers since signing in 2014 from FC Metz, but only seven of those came last season in an injury-hit campaign.

David Gold has stated that he expects Sakho to return to action in the next 2-3 weeks with the forward working hard to return to full fitness.

West Ham are expected to give Sakho a chance to redeem himself and reassert himself as West Ham’s go-to striker between now and January and will make a decision on his future then.

Whether he still wants to leave remains to be seen.
