# West Ham enquired to sign Andrea Belotti

West Ham, along with Premier League champions Leicester, made enquiries in the summer to sign Torino striker Andrea Belotti, according to Italian source Tuttosport (h/t [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/italy-west-ham-leicester-enquired-22-year-old-goalscorer/)).

The Hammers largely spent their summer in pursuit of a big-name striker to add their ranks and underwent an extensive search in Serie A which included reported moves for the likes of Mauro Icardi, Manolo Gabbiadini and Carlos Bacca before settling on signing Juventus’ Simone Zaza.

However, one of the names which was kept under wraps until now that they looked into signing was Torino’s highly-rated forward Andrea Belotti. Tuttosport believe Leicester also made checks on the striker.

Belotti, who joined Torino in the 2015 summer transfer window in a £7.1m deal from Palermo, scored 12 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last term.

He’s carried that over into 2016/17, scoring four goals in his opening two games of the season including an impressive hat-trick against Bologna which earned him a maiden call-up to the Italian national side where he made his debut from the bench against France earlier this month.

A hamstring injury sustained in training saw him miss their game against Israel along with Torino’s Serie A matches against Atalanta and Empoli before returning against Pescara earlier in the week.

The 22-year-old is certainly one to watch in Italian football over the next few years and could be someone the Hammers regret not making a stronger push for.
