# Sporting Lisbon battle West Ham for Anthony Modeste

Sporting Lisbon are preparing a move for West Ham target Anthony Modeste, according to [O Jogo](https://www.ojogo.pt/futebol/1a-liga/sporting/noticias/interior/modeste-entra-no-radar-do-sporting-5339656.html).

West Ham were in contact with Koln over a potential move for Modeste earlier this summer and could yet still launch a bid which would certainly turn his head, but the Hammers have other strikers who are higher priority.

24-year-old Modeste scored 18 goals in 36 appearances for Koln last season, which equates to a one-in-two ratio, the sort of production West Ham have been crying out for in recent years.

If Lisbon go ahead and sign Modeste from Koln this summer that could spell the end of Islam Slimani’s tenure at the club.

The Algerian striker has been linked with West Ham this summer but has also been the subject of bids from Swansea and West Brom, both of whom have seen their respective £17m and £21m offers turned down.

Sporting are holding out for £26m for the 28-year-old who has handed in a transfer request to force a move. Arsenal are also interested in the striker who scored 31 goals in 46 appearances last season.
