# West Ham snub chance to sign Robin Van Persie

West Ham have rejected the chance to sign former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie from Fenerbahce this summer, according to the [Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3730603/West-Ham-want-finalise-deal-sign-Carlos-Bacca-20m-AC-Milan-striker-looks-double-wages.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490).

The Hammers’ well-documented striker chase has led them all round Europe in search of their next proven goalscorer, while also turning one down in the process.

33-year-old van Persie joined the Super Lig side last summer in a £4.7m deal from Manchester United where he scored 22 goals in 48 appearances for the club.

The Dutchman entered a real purple patch between 2011-2013 which saw him score 56 Premier League goals across two seasons, win the Golden Boot two seasons running an earn him a £26.1m move to Manchester United from Arsenal in the summer of 2012.

While van Persie wouldn’t be the most expensive signing in terms of a transfer fee, the veteran forward is one of the most recognisable names in European football and a player of that calibre would command a large wage and signing on fee.

With 166 goals in 336 Premier League appearances, van Persie has performed at that ideal one in two rate which is what West Ham are looking for and are yet to find, but they don’t believe RVP has that kind of production left in him and will look elsewhere.
