A history of West Ham’s record buys

The arrival of Andre Ayew has smashed the record transfer fee that West Ham have ever paid for a player, and it is very likely that the record is broken once again before the window shuts at the end of the month.

Television money and inflation have resulted in footballers moving club for larger and larger fees, but it is the quality and calibre of the signing that matters most as any football fan will tell you.

There have been plenty of big-money arrivals in the history of the Hammers, with some having bigger impacts than others in recent memory. It is difficult to always be spot on with someone, and inevitably, you never know what to expect from someone until they get on the pitch.
