# West Ham readying move for Mario Mandzukic

West Ham are believed to be readying a move for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic, according to Croatian source [Vecernji List](https://www.vecernji.hr/nogomet/bilic-odgovorio-na-pitanje-dovodi-li-mandzukica-u-west-ham-zna-se-da-je-zanimljiv-1101247).

Slaven Bilic and Co. are having to draw up a fresh list of striker targets after they were definitively turned down by Carlos Bacca this week who claims he will only leave Milan for a Champions League club.

One of the players they’re now looking at is Mario Mandzukic. The 30-year-old striker worked with Bilic during their time together with the Croatian national team which leaves the Hammers well-placed for a move.

Juventus are said to be considering Mandzukic’s sale, especially now after they are closing in on the signing of Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli. A medical has already been completed and passed, with Juventus expected to pay the full €94m release clause to get their man, says [Di Marzio](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/eng/juventus-agreement-with-higuain-medicals-have-already-been-completed/).

Mandzukic only joined Juventus last summer in a £16.1m deal from Atletico Madrid, and scored 13 goals in 36 appearances, but would be seen as a backup option in Turin if Higuain joins Paulo Dybala in attack.

The former Bayern Munich striker is of a similar mould to Andy Carroll – a tall, target man-type figure to spearhead the attack which begs the question: is it wise to bring him in, as opposed to a more dynamic forward?
