# Barcelona’s Vermaelen may return to England with West Ham

Barcelona centre-back Thomas Vermaelen is looking to move back to London according to [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20160712/403142007576/vermaelen-prefiere-la-premier.html), and West Ham is said to be the most likely option.

The 30-year-old joined Barcelona in Aug. 2014 for around £15 million from Arsenal, but has only made 21 appearances across two seasons due to injury struggles. Multiple clubs are said to be interested, with Roma and Besiktas rumoured to be wanting to add the Belgian defender to their line-up.

The report states however that Vermaelen would prefer a move back to the Premier League and London in particular, as the familiar surroundings would be beneficial to settle back into. Barcelona want £8.3 million for him, and West Ham are said to be willing to pay that amount.

West Ham are getting ready for their first season at the Olympic Stadium, and have been a flurry of transfer rumours. Having already signed Havard Nordtveit and Sofiane Feghouli, they have been linked to many other players.

Last season West Ham finished seventh in the Premier League, and will have the chance to qualify for the Europa League.
