# Diogo Jota reveals he rejected West Ham for Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid youngster Diogo Jota reveals [he rejected offers from England](https://www.espnfc.com/atletico-madrid/story/2909830/atletico-madrid-youngster-diogo-jota-aims-to-emulate-antoine-griezmann), believed to be from West Ham and Arsenal, in order to sign with the LA Liga giants.

Signed for just €7m from Pacos de Ferreira, Portugal youth international Jota was Liga Sagres young player of year last season as he scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.

The 19-year-old attacker said he had several offers on the table from across Europe, but the way Atletico Madrid went about their business is what swayed him to sign with them.

“*I had various offers, Portuguese clubs, and English, but I preferred to play in Spain,*” he said. “*Atletico’s way of presenting their offer seemed serious to me. The financial offer was the same as the others. I liked how the club’s owner Miguel Angel Gil Marin went about it.*”

Jota is capped at U23 level by Portugal despite still being a teenager, and is spoken about in the same breath as Renato Sanches as some of the nation’s next great talents.

West Ham have already welcomed on Portuguese youth international to the club this summer as Domingos Quina swapped Chelsea and West London for the Hammers in the East.
