# Nathan Trott speaks about his West Ham ambitions

West Ham academy goalkeeper Nathan Trott has been speaking with [Islandstats.com](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efsEu8txLE4) about his time at the club and his aspirations for the coming season.

The Bermudan-born stopper signed professional terms with the club in January 2016 after a successful trial and has been featuring for the U18 and U21 sides in the past six months as well as training with the first-team.

Trott put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half-year professional contract with West Ham which runs until the summer of 2018, and he spoke of his delight to join the club with the [official site](https://www.whufc.com/News/Articles/2016/January/22-January/Hammers-capture-youngster-Trott).

> I’m very happy; there’s been a lot of hard work put into this, not just by myself but also my Dad, my agent and all my family. I was very surprised when they told me; it’s a huge moment for me. I like it a lot here, I love the club. Everyone round here is very friendly.

Now, ahead of his first full season with West Ham, Trott has spoken about his first six months with the Hammers and what his aspirations are for the coming season.

*“It’s pretty much been a roller-coaster so far, obviously I’ve been there a year already so I’m kind of used to it already, but it was kind of rough at the start because I’ve been training for almost a whole season and just being able to play only two games but I enjoyed the time I’ve been able to play I’ve enjoyed it a lot.*

*“When I was training there (on trial) was about three others there, they were pretty good but I always thought I was better. Probably why I performed well, when you have that self-belief you perform better.”*

Trott has been heavily involved with first-team training in the last few months and believes this is the key to becoming a better player.

*“During my experience at West Ham, I’ve trained with the first-team quite a lot. It’s a lot different from the academy training. It’s a lot more intense obviously, better quality as well, it’s different class.*

*“If I want to be better I’m going to have to push myself, so obviously if you train with people that are better than you I think you get better as the time goes. I wouldn’t be happy with training with the academy for the whole time.”*

As we approach the new season, the young goalkeeper wants to progress into the U21 side and possibly even feature for the first-team and possibly the England youth set-up.

*“This season coming what I want to do is play mostly U21s football, but, obviously, I’m going to start off in the U18s this season and I want to prove myself if I can play U21s.*

*“I also want to be more involved with the first-team, I want to become maybe third choice this season at least once, and if not once then obviously every week. At the end of that, if those two things go well then it will end up with me getting a call-up to England maybe. If I push myself I think I can do anything.”*

When asked about his future in the West Ham first-team, Nathan wants to give himself a couple of seasons before pushing for a starting role in the Premier League.

*“I will give myself maybe a couple seasons and see where I am by then. I will be fully grown by then and I will be a lot better than I am now.”*

As for pre-season, Trott has been told to prepare to possibly be part of the first-team tour of the USA.

*“Pre-season I’m not sure yet. I’ve been told I might travel with the first-team for pre-season or I might be travelling with the U18s-U21s somewhere else. I haven’t been told where I’m travelling to yet but I’ve been told just be prepared to travel.”*
