# West Ham target Ghezzal set for Lyon exit

West Ham have been boosted in their efforts to sign Lyon attacking midfielder Rachid Ghezzal after the club revealed he would be placed on the transfer list if he doesn’t sign a new contract within the next week.

According to Spanish source [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/valencia/2016/06/22/576aaf81e2704e67348b4686.html), Ghezzal is also wanted by Valencia who could do with an attacking midfielder having seen Sofiane Feghouli walk away from the club on a free transfer to sign a three-year deal with West Ham earlier this month.

Lyon club president Jean-Michel Aulas stated this week his desire for Ghezzal to pen a new deal with the club but admitted he would be made available for transfer if he opts against doing so.

> (Ghezzal has) not yet signed renewal. If not signed (by) next week, we will put (him) on the market.

The 24-year-old really made a name for himself during the 2015/16 season, scoring eight goals and recorded eight assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon last term and was subsequently made a [target for the Hammers](https://readwestham.com/2016/06/13/west-ham-linked-move-ghezzal/).

The Algerian international is only under contract with Lyon until next summer and the Ligue 1 club do not want to risk losing him on a free transfer, so they would rather cash-in on him now after a strong season if he opts not to sign a long-term deal.

West Ham are not alone in their pursuit of Ghezzal, as Liverpool, Juventus, Napoli and Pariz Saint-Germain have all been credited with interest in the last month.
