# Gonul rejects new contract in favour of West Ham move

Turkish international Gokhan Gonul will reject proposed contract renewal talks with Fenerbahce in favour of a move to a European team, with West Ham keen.

[Sabah](https://www.sabah.com.tr/spor/futbol/2016/04/15/gokhan-gonul-west-hama) linked West Ham with a move for Gonul back in April, after it had been revealed that the 31-year-old was actively looking to depart from Turkey. His latest comments have reiterated Sabah’s claims from April.

*“You never know what is going to happen next but I want to continue my career in Europe,”* [Gonul said](https://www.sabah.com.tr/spor/futbol/2016/04/15/gokhan-gonul-west-hama)*.*

Gonul’s contract expires at the end of the month, meaning he is currently free to sign a pre-contract with another club.

Gokhan has been an integral part of Fenerbahce’s side since arriving at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in 2007, appearing over 330 times, and will be a big miss to the Turkish outfit.

West Ham are among the list of clubs pursuing two-time Turkish Süper Lig champion with Slaven Bilic keen on finding a replacement for Arsenal loanee Carl Jenkinson to rival Sam Byram at right-back.

Should he complete the switch to East London, this would be an incredibly shrewd piece of business by the Hammers. Though, it will spell an end to Michail Antonio’s time at right-back.
