# West Ham amongst clubs to make offer to free agent Frenchman

West Ham, Sunderland and Saint-Etienne have all submitted contract offers to free-agent Nice right-back Jeremy Pied, according to [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/sunderland-and-west-ham-submit-offers-out-contract-nice-star-jeremy-pied-160607198740?).

They quote France Football who state that the Hammers along with Sunderland and Saint-Etienne, are all interested in signing the former Lyon defender this summer and have contacted his representatives over making a free transfer.

The 27-year-old former France U21 international was released by Ligue 1 side Nice this summer after making 35 appearances for the club this past season.

He signed for Nice for £2.25m from Lyon where he had spent all of his professional career, barring a short loan at FC Metz. Nice loaned Pied out in the 2014/15 season to EA Guingamp.

Pied is a natural right-back, but has filled in at left-back sporadically in his career while also being used regularly in a more advanced role on the right of midfield.

The Frenchman is currently on holiday with his family and is allowing his agent to discuss his next move while he is away. He will make his decision on his future when he returns.

The Hammers are in the market for defensive additions this summer, especially at right-back. Having today released Joey O’Brien, the club only have Sam Byram at their disposal as a natural right-back.

However, throughout the season Slaven Bilic deputised several different players at right-back when he needed to. Natural centre-halves James Tomkins and Reece Burke both played the majority of their time at right-back, while Michail Antonio also filled in during the latter half of the season due to injures to Byram and Tomkins.

One player the Hammers were looking to recruit was Dutch international Gregory van der Wiel. The defender was released by PSG this summer and has a number of offers on the table, including one from West Ham. However, it is unlikely that the 28-year-old will complete a move to East London.
