# Defender out for the season with injury

West Ham defender Carl Jenkinson, on loan from Premier League rivals Arsenal, will be out for the rest of the season with an injury.

The 23-year-old was substituted off after just 13 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the weekend and was replaced by new signing Sam Byram.

It was Jenkinson who fouled Sergio Aguero for the penalty that drew City level at 1-1, and it appeared to be on that challenge where the defender injured himself.

Freelance journalist Graeme Bailey says that the player will now return to Arsenal for treatment, which is commonplace when a loanee suffers a serious injury.

West Ham signed Byram to provide competition for Jenkinson for the right-back role, but it appears that the former Leeds United man will now see plenty of action over the next few months as the Hammers mount a challenge for European football next season.

The move to sign Byram from the Yorkshire club looks an even better one for West Ham now.
