# Hammers join chase for Colombian striker

West Ham have joined Stoke City and West Brom in the chase for 20-year-old Colombian striker Mateo Cardona, according to a report in [The Express & Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/2016/01/04/west-brom-keen-on-colombian-prodigy/).

The article also suggests that European sides Benfica, Monaco and Real Betis are also interested in signing the forward, but it is believed that the idea of a move to the Premier League appeals greatly to the youngster

Cardona, who plays for Envigado in Colombia’s top division, would likely be keen on a move to England, but there is a potential stumbling block that could hinder West Ham’s chances of bringing him to Upton Park.

There is a doubt as to whether Cardona would be granted a work permit, and West Ham would have to make the case that he is an exceptional talent. If they can’t, there is a possibility that they could sign him then send him on loan to a European side until he met the criteria needed to get a permit in the UK.
