# Man United star facing ban after elbowing West Ham defender

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is facing a three-match ban after a clash with Winston Reid during the 0-0 draw with West Ham on Saturday, as per [Fox Sports](https://www.foxsports.com/soccer/story/fa-charge-schweinsteiger-for-alleged-elbow-on-west-ham-s-winston-reid-120715).

The German seemed to elbow Hammers defender Reid in the face as United were about to take a free-kick in the first-half and retrospective action can be taken after Mark Clattenburg and his assistants didn’t see over the incident.

Both Reid and West Ham boss Slaven Bilic [accused](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-united-midfielder-bastian-schweinsteiger-6965879) Schweinsteiger of deliberately elbowing the defender in the face after the match.

The New Zealander said:

> *It was a red card. He knows what he’s done – he’s elbowed me in the face. The referee couldn’t see it, so we move on.*

Bilic added:

> *It is a red card, but I can agree that he didn’t see it. No matter how many referees you have, sometimes they can’t see.**I’m sure if he did see it, it would have been a straight red. Of course, we are disappointed but it happens. He just didn’t see it.* *I saw it on the replays at half-time. It was a red, a big-time red. I understand the decision, but it was a crucial moment. I can’t blame the referee.*

Clattenburg was contacted by the FA to make sure that he didn’t see the incident, and after confirming he didn’t, the FA charged Schweinsteiger after a three-man panel of referees examined the video evidence and declared that the German should have been sent off.

If he is given a ban, Schweinsteiger will miss United’s games against Bournemouth, Norwich and Stoke.
