# West Ham striker his sights set on international call-up

West Ham striker Andy Carroll says that he is keen to stay fit and keep scoring goals for The Hammers, and by doing so, regain his place back in Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

The 26-year-old striker has nine caps for his country and is hoping that by performing well for Slaven Bilic’s side every week, he’ll do enough to earn more, and potentially be on the plane to France for Euro 2016.

Speaking to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/10055301/andy-carroll-keen-to-reignite-england-career-with-west-ham-goals) about his chances of getting back into Hodgson’s squad, Carroll said:

> That’s obviously in the back of my head but I think at the moment I’m concentrating on being fit and scoring goals at West Ham and that’s the only thing that will lead me there.

The former Newcastle United and Liverpool man, who got on the scoresheet for the first time in almost a year when The Hammers defeated Chelsea, also spoke about how he dealt with being out injured for such a long time once again.

> It was tough, it was hard. I just had to concentrate on getting back and I had my friends and family there to help me and support me.

> It was a nightmare, a tough time, but I’m over it now and want to move on and keep myself healthy.

West Ham have had a terrific start to the season, despite their slip-up against Watford, in which Carroll himself made a mistake to gift the opposition a goal.

Bilic’s side currently sit in 6th position in the Premier League table, having amassed 20 points from their 11 games.
