# Tottenham move to Boleyn Ground looks unlikely

West Ham have released a statement on behalf of Vice-Chairman Karren Brady via the club’s [official website](https://www.whufc.com/News/Articles/2015/October/21-October/West-Ham-United-statement) which confirmed that no football team will be allowed to play matches at the Boleyn Ground without permission, which all but ends the likelihood of Tottenham Hotspur moving to the stadium temporarily.

The statement said:

> Following a story published online on Tuesday evening which stated Tottenham Hotspur could use the Boleyn Ground after West Ham have moved out, Vice-Chairman Karren Brady would like to confirm that, as a condition of the sale, she put a covenant on the ground which prevents any other football club from using it as their home ground or playing matches there without the express permission of West Ham United. Therefore, this categorically rules out any other football team, including Tottenham Hotspur, from using the ground to play football matches unless the Board of West Ham United gives them permission to do so.

The reports mentioned were published by The Mail Online (who’ve since edited the story since the West Ham statement was made), suggesting that Tottenham wanted to use the stadium as a temporary home whilst their new stadium was being built.

Spurs originally wanted to use Wembley stadium to host their home matches, but it appears that they’ve missed out on that opportunity as Chelsea seem to have beaten them to the punch.

West Ham will leave the Boleyn Ground at the end of this season and will play home games at the Olympic Stadium.

Spurs, who are still looking for a temporary residence, may be forced to share Stadium MK with the MK Dons, something which will upset their fans due to the distance from White Hart Lane.
