# Ex-Hammer slams West Ham fitness and training regime

According to [london24.com](https://www.london24.com/sport/football/clubs/west-ham/at_west_ham_training_was_simple_former_hammers_striker_reveals_work_ethic_comparisons_to_watford_1_4253007), Watford forward Diamanti has labelled being at Watford like a ‘new world’ compared to when he was at West Ham earlier in his career.

He joined Watford on a season-long loan from China this summer, however, the former Italy international is yet to break into the newly-promoted side.

Diamanti joined West Ham from Livorno in 2009. He spent a season with the Hammers, scoring 7 goals in 28 league games before leaving due to ‘homesickness’ to join Brescia back in Italy.

Diamanti has now come out to say how simple West Ham training was over five years ago and how different it is with Flores’ Watford. He explained how specific the drills are and how much depth there is in each session with the aim of getting the maximum out of the players.

“I’ve found very modern football \[at Watford\].

“At West Ham everyone ate what they wanted. The workouts were simpler. In Watford you follow a specific diet.

“After the work on the field you do sessions of yoga and pilates and there is a lot of attention for the video part (analysis). We have an English teacher available too. It’s a new world.

Although this has no bearing on the West Ham of today, with a different management staff to what it was back then, it is still an interesting insight into the West Ham world back then and how things have potentially changed in football since then.
