# West Ham tried to Sign Croatian International

[Reports](https://www.insidefutbol.com/2015/09/29/aston-villa-and-west-ham-snubbed-by-croatia-international-despite-offering-most-money/244695/) have emerged indicating that both Aston Villa and West Ham tried to sign Croatian international Nikola Kalinic in the summer.

The striker eventually left Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk to join Fiorentina for a fee of roughly €5.5million.

Kalinic will be familiar to some fans in England, having spent two years at Blackburn Rovers, before moving to the Ukranian club.

With Slaven Bilic taking over at Upton Park, it was to be expected that The Hammers would be linked to some of the players he managed during his time as Croatia boss, and it appears he did try to bring Kalinic into the club.

West Ham have suffered some bad luck with injuries in the striker department, so it will come as little surprise that they were looking to bring in another forward.

However, despite the willingness of The Hammers to pay a higher fee than Fiorentina, Kalinic decided to move to the Italian club as he wanted to work under coach Paulo Sousa.
