# West Ham starlet Reece Oxford named in England squad

West Ham’s rising star Reece Oxford has been named in the England U18 squad for the very first time.

The youngster has been one of the few bright spots in West Ham’s inconsistent start of the season after making his debut in the Europa League in early July.

Even though his natural position is at centre-half, the 16-year-old has made five appearances for the Hammers this season – all in central midfielder, due to his great composure on the ball and eye for a pass.

Oxford was dropped from West Ham’s team which lost 4-3 to Bournemouth due to a niggling injury, but he’s expected to be back in the first-team fold for the trip to Anfield to play Liverpool.

England U18s manager Neil Denswip has named Oxford as a defender in his squad to play Holland next month.

After making 17 appearances for the England U17 side, as well as being their captain, Oxford is working his way up the international tree.
